In recent years, the LHS Marching Patriots and color guard have gained national recognition, building on a tradition of excellence that has continued for more than 45 years.
Our Season
The marching season lasts almost half a year from music distribution in the spring through the thick of the fall competition season. Every four years the band takes a major trip.

2022 Competition Season

Pursuit of Excellence, Marshall, MN: 1st place overall

Bands of America Regional, Des Moines, IA: 1st place overall and the band's first time ever as the champion of a BOA event

Youth in Music, Minneapolis, MN: 2nd place overall among dozens of bands in the Upper Midwest

Bands of America Super Regional, St. Louis, MO: 4th place among dozens of bands (our band's best final results ever at St. Louis, where many of the top bands in the country compete)

During the 2022 season, our band also made the HornRank list for the top bands in the U.S. HornRank is the premiere national scholastic marching band website focusing on BOA events.

Marching Band Events & Organizations
The marching band competition world has several key organizations bands participate in, as well as premier performances of note that invite select bands.
Bands of America
Music for All's Bands of America (BOA) marching band championships are the premier events for marching bands in the nation. The Lincoln Marching Band typically attends two BOA events each season.
Youth in Music
Youth In Music (YIM) provides opportunities for students to perform and engage in experiences that will enrich their lives through artistic expression. Our band typically performs in the YIM Marching Band Championships.
Festival of Bands
The Lincoln band is one of several local schools hosting the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls, always taking place the first Saturday of October. The Festival of Bands includes both parade and field marching events. Because we are a host, we do not compete; however, we play in exhibition for both the parade and field show. We also staff volunteers to run the event along with other local schools.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
In spring 2023, the Lincoln Marching Band accepted an invitation from Macy's to march in the 2024 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York once again.
Past Hallmark Performances
Our band has also previously performed at the prestigious Tournament of Roses parade and the Hollywood Christmas Parade.
