Student Experience & More

We’re excited to partner with a longtime, trusted tour provider in NYC student travel experiences, Students on Broadway. (The SDSU marching band partnered with the same company for a memorable Macy’s experience.)

The Lincoln Band and BPA are paying for a portion of the trip. Student dues (ISAs) pay for another portion. Overall, the costs include an impressive list of activities, accommodation and transport associated with:

Round trip coach (bus) transport between Sioux Falls and NYC
4-night hotel stay in Jersey City, NJ
Licensed NYC tour guides
Museum of Broadway, New York Public Library, Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island
Empire State Building OR Top of the Rock Observation Deck
Financial District Tour including Wall Street, The Bull, St Paul’s Chapel
National 9/11 Memorial pools, glade, survivor tree
Central Park Jam Session
Tickets to two shows: 1 Broadway show and 1 Radio City Christmas Spectacular
98th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
LHS Band Family Celebration Thanksgiving Dinner Cruise/DJ aboard private yacht (with band families and friends)
Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Bryant Park
Use of fieldhouse rehearsal facility
2-ride PATH train metrocard
Ferries to Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island & Battery Park
Coach transport within & around NYC when ferry/train not taken

The BPA and band pay for a portion of the trip. Students are responsible for part of trip costs through their individual student account (ISA). Student dues are paid to their ISA, and the BPA issues a check to the tour operator.

Macy's Trip Dues: $1,710

Will Macy's student trip dues be different than regular marching band season dues?

Yes, there will be separate amounts for dues for the regular marching band season and for the Macy's trip. However, funds for both will all continue to go into a single individual student account (ISA) for each band member.

2024 regular season dues: TBA
Macy's trip dues: $1,710 (See Cost & Payment tab.)

Note that costs can vary for certain roles within the band, such as color guard.

The band program offers multiple ways for students and families to earn money toward individual student accounts (ISAs). See our Fundraising section of the website for options. Earnings from the following go to student ISAs.

Grocery gift cards and RaiseRight gift card rebates
Work shifts at local events and organizations
Product sales: These will vary throughout the year. November 2023 product sales include the following just in time for gift-giving season.
- Lincoln Band Macy's Special Edition Stocking Hats
- Culver's Value Basket certificates & Concrete Mixer certificates

Get more details and your order form. All pre-orders and money due November 27 to the lockbox in the band room.

We are also organizing several fundraising campaigns for the Band Parents Association, which supports the student programs. These include:

Feed the Band: Students are asked to raise awareness and encourage giving to feed the band in the 2024-25 season, which is expected to cost $100,000. We're asking each student to identify 10 people you can ask to help feed the band. See page 2 of this document for a script and tips on how to ask.
Giving Tuesday campaign: This will take place on and around November 28, a day of giving to nonprofits like the BPA.
